Activity Services
The Facility’s Activities Department schedules activities, for both the individual resident and groups, to match the skills, abilities, and interests/preferences of each resident. Princeton Health Care Center maintains one of the largest and most active departments in West Virginia.
Over the course of nearly 40 years, we’ve provided a wealth of activities for seniors. Our goal is to help make assisted living an exciting new chapter for our residents, one filled with new experiences.
Exploring the Area
Regular outings help residents see the sights. We travel to restaurants and stores, giving residents time “out on the town.” When it’s warm outside, we go fishing, and when it’s time to stay indoors, we hit the lanes down at the bowling alley. Our residents catch shows at the Wohlfahrt Haus Dinner Theatre, the Chuck Mathena Center, and other local venues in and around Princeton, VA. And for our more athletically inclined residents, we travel to local sporting events as well.
Special Events
Every day here is full of classes and activities for our residents to take part in. But we all know how much fun it is to have big occasions to plan for and look forward to, which is why our calendar has plenty of exciting annual events. In the past, we’ve held prom, giving everyone a chance to get gussied up and grooving. And each year, we proudly compete in the Geri Olympics in Charleston, which includes participants from more than 23 senior living communities.
Many folks see “seniors” as one homogenous group. But our residents are as varied as they come; there is no “one-size-fits-all” activity. That’s why the Activities Department works hard to vary our offerings, so that there’s something for everyone. One way we break up the schedule is with different groups. For example, our Rockers Club is made up of our younger residents, providing our 65-and-under crowd with unique activities.
Second Wind Dreams is a program we’re particularly proud of, and one that has made for some of our favorite memories here at Princeton Health Care Center. The program exists to fulfill the wishes of our residents. In the past, we’ve taken a resident to the beach, coordinated a motorcycle ride for a resident, and even flown one resident’s son in from states away for a reunion 30 years in the making. The overwhelming feeling of joy each of these experiences has brought to the resident in question has been shared by the members of our staff and by the other residents here. Happiness like that is contagious, and it’s hard to overstate its impact on everyone in our community.
More than a few of the folks here at Princeton Health Care Center have talked about catching up with their loved ones over the phone at the end of the week, and finding that their week was more action packed than that of their children and grandchildren. It’s our privilege to put together activities for our residents and to share these experiences with them. For more information about our Activities Department, call 304-487-3458 or email us.
